In March 2020, life as we knew it significantly changed. For many young carers, these changes impacted their personal situations. Support networks minimised. In some situations, families have not had access to the care that they need. Many young people have not attended school, which for some could have been the only respite they had from a challenging home situation. Some young carers have been looking after relatives whose conditions have been exacerbated by the current situation.
Whilst this crisis continues, it is likely that young carers’ health and wellbeing will be increasingly impacted by their caring roles and lack of respite and support. Identifying young carers’ is the first step towards ensuring they are supported.
